Welcome to The Academy at The Music Stop.
Our music school operates from 2 dedicated studios from our shop in
Cockfosters, teaching guitar, drums, piano and ukulele in a group environment Monday to Saturday.
Our lessons are termly and are usually between 12 and 14 weeks. Lessons start from around 4pm and carry into the evening. Piano & Keyboard lessons are on Mondays and Tuesdays. Guitar Lessons are on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. Drum lessons are on Saturdays and Ukulele lessons are on Mondays.

| How Group Tuition Works |
Group tuition is a great way of keeping the cost of lessons down without compromising your learning. With private teaching pushing £45 per hour, our lessons at just £12 per hour offer the same level of teaching but at a fraction of the cost. Why not call in and arrange a free trial lesson to see how The Academy can further your musical ambition.
Our classes are designed for all ages and abilities from compete beginner to diploma level. Our group sizes vary according to instrument and can be as small as 3 to a group. We arrange our groups in similar age and ability so you can rest assured that if you are a 30 something beginner you won't be put in a group with 7 year old whiz kids! |

| Practice, Practice, Practice!! |

People always ask us... 'How long does is take to become proficient on the guitar/piano/drums/kazoo?'
Our answer? It's entirely up to you. If you practice then you get better, if you don't then you won't. Simple as that. We recommend that a beginner practice about 15 minutes every couple of days. With this amount of practice you should be able to play to a reasonable standard by the end of your first term.
All under 18's will be presented with a report at the end of term outlining their progress. This helps to document your development as well as suggesting any changes in your practice schedule that could be made. There's always room for improvement! |

| Playing & Beyond |
|
Not only do we teach you how to play, we also taylor the classes to suit each class individually. For example, we teach theory, notation and sight reading skills as well as musical history, improvisation and songwriting in certain classes. One of our groups is learning about the history of blues music as well as putting that into practice by improvising the major/minor pentatonic scale around the 12 bar blues and another group, besides studying for Rockschool Piano Exams, is analysing recent chart hits and writing their own songs. If your thing is Baroque lute music from 1650 then we even have a class for that!
Once you have been playing for about a term it is then possible to look at taking exams if you wish. We offer the Rockschool series of exams for Guitar, Drums & Piano and the ABRSM and LCM (London College of Music) series of exams for Piano & Keyboard

| How to Enrol |
| Simply telephone on 020 8441 1050 or pop into the shop. We will take a small deposit to secure your place and advise you whether you can join an existing group (if you play a little already) or whether you will need to wait for the beginning of the next term. |
